This website is maintained by me for the BioDesign module that is being taught at the National University of Singapore.  This is a compulsory design module for the third year bioengineering students.  The module has evolved somewhat over the years but the basic objectives and philosophy have remained the same.

"We should spend less time at universities filling our students' minds with content by lecturing at them, and more time igniting their creativity … by actually talking with them."
Daphne Koller
Stanford Professor of Computer Science and
Founder of coursera a massively online education platform.

The above two quotes symbolise the philosophy of the of this Biodesign module at the National University of Singapore (since 2007).

We aim to build skill and confidence in our students and to bring their capability to the level of an entry level medical device engineer. The product development process are predicated on familiarity with quality systems (CFR 820 and ISO 134-85). Thus the design process in this module is highly geared towards conformity with the prescribed quality systems.

This year the emphasis is on making functioning prototypes rather than "innovative" paper design that doesn't work or cannot be manufactured. In previous years, many projects were done the last three weeks of the module.  Each team need to pace themselves throughout the semester so that the deliverables can be achieved in a timely manner.

Why the name BioDsign.  All the biodesign related domain names are taken.  The only one that is left is biodsign.org.  We also have a Facebook page www.facebook.com/biodsign.
